New Food/Tech Startup, Rolling Out Headquarters in Oakland’s Jack London Square

Introducing Habit
Habit, LLC, a food/tech startup, has outgrown its incubator space housing approximately 40 employees in Emeryville and will be rolling out a new, much larger headquarters operation in Oakland’s popular Jack London Square.

The Emeryville-based company combines nutrition, science, technology to deliver customized meals based on the consumer’s unique biology. Habit, which plans to launch in 2017, recently raised $32 million in an investment from Campbell’s Soup. Among the company’s employees are scientists, nutritionists, engineers and food specialists.

Embarcadero West: Jack London Square
Habit’s new HQ in Jack London Square consists of an entire ±31,171 square foot office/ industrial/flex building (units A, B and C) located at 985 3rd Street. The space is divided into 21,100 square feet of collaborative office space and features another 10,000 square feet of industrial space that will be converted into a commercial kitchen. The company has already moved into a portion of the office space and is in the process of building the commercial kitchen and headquarters facility.

The concrete and glass converted warehouse building is part of a multi-building, 200,000 square foot project known as Embarcadero West, positioned on the north end of Jack London Square and owned by Duwo Partners, LLC.

Cushman & Wakefield Team
Barry Cohn and David Englert with Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord. Mr. Englert, along with Brian Foster and Adan Martinez also of Cushman & Wakefield, represented the tenant in the transaction.

Mr. Englert, a Vice President with Cushman & Wakefield’s Oakland office, said, “One of the key reasons Habit selected Embarcadero West for its expansion was the property’s unique ability and zoning to deliver ample office space for growth as well as an area to accommodate a large commercial kitchen build out.”

He added, “Originally built as a Del Monte canning factory, this 4-square block development— Embarcadero West – has been transformed over the last 30 years into an exciting, entrepreneurial, creative office project.”

Embarcadero West is a converted warehouse environment situated between Linden and Myrtle Streets, and 3rd Street and the Embarcadero at the entrance to Oakland’s Port. The project enjoys excellent freeway access to all points north and south via Interstate 880 and 980 as well as close proximity to the Oakland West BART Station.
